IN-TERIA Design Generators | PLACE. STORY. MADE
Every building and every space has a story – we are here to help you craft the experience for today.
Based in Hobart, IN-TERIA is an interior architecture and design studio led by interior designer Karryn Dargie and registered architect Dean Baird. Since 2003, we have acted as agents of change, specialising in the purposeful creation and reinvention of buildings.
Architecture from the inside out.
We believe that a building’s success is gauged by the quality of life experienced within it. Whether we are designing a new architectural project or revitalising an existing structure, our focus is the interior environment. By prioritising the internal experience first, we craft bespoke spaces that significantly enhance the everyday routines of those who live and work in them. To guide this, we employ three key drivers:
PLACE // Every project has its place.
A building sits within a landscape and connects to culture—past, present, and future. We celebrate this connection to the Tasmanian environment, ensuring our architectural response—from the first sod turned to the final interior detail—is deeply rooted in its site.
STORY // This is your story.
How would you like to tell it? We see ourselves as your pen—helping you plan and realise the change you seek. For new builds, we help you craft a fresh narrative; for existing structures, we peel back the layers to reveal their authentic character. In both cases, we weave a story of context, functionality, and atmosphere.
MADE // We are captivated by how things are made.
A curiosity for materials and making forms a central part of our creative process. We focus on natural materials that feel good to touch and will age and patina gracefully. We prioritise local resources and skills and are committed to a sustainable future for our island state.
At IN-TERIA, we look beyond the surface. We engage in architectural intervention—listening to a site, uncovering its potential, and weaving it into modern life. We thrive on the dialogue between innovation and heritage, guided by your brief. By sourcing locally and working intentionally, we create spaces that are not just built, but are deeply anchored in their place.
