Based in Hobart, Tasmania, IN-TERIA is a design studio working across interior architecture, interior design and product design.
Founded by interior designer Karryn Dargie and architect Dean Baird, our portfolio spans residential and commercial projects and includes experience across hospitality, retail, workplace, and tourism sectors.
As our name suggests, we are particularly fascinated by the life within ~ both spiritually and physically ~ and how built spaces and places can support, amplify, and enhance the day-to-day, gratify the senses, deepen the connection with the surrounding landscape, and embody a Tasmanian way of life.
[Crafting] spaces, experiences & objects for a well-made life.
About
What is a well-made life to you?
Is it a spot in the morning sun for a cup of tea? Perhaps the view of distant hills and the row of Casuarinas you planted over a decade ago? Is it that you just love arriving at your desk each morning because you enjoy the expansive view and cool south light in your workspace? Or maybe you love the warm tones of timber, the muted sound of diners and the feel of the earthenware bowls at the café that you’ve owned for years. Is it the sound of your daughter practising the piano whilst the sea breeze billows the curtain, or the smell of garlic and butter on the stove as you pour a glass of red for your oldest friend?
We want to craft places for these moments to happen in daily life, whether at home, your place of work, or the business you run. We understand how the environments we create and inhabit can shape our experience of life. They can nurture, shield and uplift us. They are the vessels of the past, present and future. They support us in solitude and connect us to others.
Do you need help refining, enriching, or expanding your own spaces to support a well-made life?
Whether you are thinking about re-imagining your existing space or creating something entirely new, we may be your agents of change.
IN-TERIA is a studio of exploration and creative intervention. We are fascinated by the 'living history' of the Tasmanian built environment.
Our process involves peeling back the layers (of time) to reveal a structure's honest character, whether it's a legacy structure or a new development, then weaving in a new narrative through context, functionality, form, story and atmosphere.
Our practice is defined by a hands-on, exploratory approach. A curiosity for materials and making forms a central part of our creative process, and has resulted in IN-TERIA Goods.
We don't just adapt spaces; we reinvent, renew and re-imagine them.
Let's build real value together.
