IN-TERIA O-Series
Product design wasn’t something we expected to add to our repertoire. However, the desire to create architectural objects is a fairly standard ‘one-day’ theme among architects and designers.
In 2012, we proudly launched our inaugural product range, the O-Series. This unique collection of turned timber handles emerged from our search for the perfect timber handle for an architectural project. At the time, we couldn’t find one. Since they didn’t exist, we decided to create our own. How hard could it be? We were about to disappear down the most delightful rabbit hole and learn a lot while we were there.
Unfortunately, we missed the project deadline. In a moment of urgency, our clients chose metal pulls instead (huge thanks to Anne and Warren for their patience). However, this experience pushed us to develop our first four profiles: the Big O, the Curvy, the Stealth, and the Kaboom. We showcased these designs at ‘Design:Made:Trade’ that year. Four profiles, or shapes, have now grown to over 50 (as of the last count in 2025).
Woodturning has not been formally taught in Tasmania since the 1980s, and it appears to be a global trend, making our talented artisans some of the last of their kind. With the O-Series, we aimed to uphold this beautiful tradition by creating contemporary architectural objects that are thoughtfully designed, crafted by local Tasmanian master artisans, and made from high-quality natural materials.
Launching the O-Series ignited our passion for object design. It taught us invaluable lessons and helped us grow significantly. We will always appreciate this journey, and we invite you to explore our products available here.
